ETA Eddy Popescu first came to my attention via a podcast as I was getting ready for the Flaming Star Festival on October 15th, 2017. Eddy was telling viewers that, although people in Canada were very friendly, he was feeling lonely. When I arrived at the Festival, I sought out Eddy because I wanted to see if he was feeling any better. He said he was, and people had been very kind to him since his arrival. When it came time for Eddy to perform in the Gospel portion of the competition, he was plagued by interruptions in his music. After several attempts to continue, the judges decided to end his performance with a promise that he would perform his song in its entirety at the end of the lineup. On his second attempt, with his music technically supportive, Eddy gave a great performance that received cheers from the audience who were decidedly on the side of this newcomer competing in his first Canadian competition. Eddy also performed in the Pro category; and once again, the audience was with him all the way. With the performances in each category completed, and marks tallied, it was time to present the awards. Eddy came second in the Pro category, with Bruno Nesci placing first, and Richard Wolfe placing third. After the shaky start with his music, Eddy went on to win the Gospel competition. And it is no surprise that Eddy won the People's Choice award; he won the hearts of the fans the moment he stepped on the stage. When I spoke to Eddy after the competition, I congratulated him on his wins, and added that I hope he would return to Canada in the near future. I also asked if he would be doing any sightseeing during his first visit to Ontario. I suggested that if he was going to see anything, he should see Niagara Falls. Later in the evening, I learned from Eddy's podcast that he had indeed made it to Niagara Falls. I sensed from the moment I met Eddy and saw him perform that he would be well received in Canada. I recently contacted Eddy about posting his bio and photos, and he told me that he has been invited to Tweed and Collingwood in 2018. I don't think Eddy will feel lonely on his next trip to Canada. He already has fans here waiting for his return. Best of luck, Eddy. And thank you for giving me permission to post your bio, photos, flyer, and links. CM
I asked Eddy if he would like to say a few words to his Canadian fans, and here is a personal note he sent to me:
I will come back there for them. A huge thank you for the support, sharing my photos and live feeds, and for the messages. I really had a great time in Canada and they made feel very welcome. They are very friendly. Also, thank you for the nice presents they gave me.
Eddy was born in Constanta, Romania in 1977. As a 6 year old, Eddy first saw Elvis in the film Fun in Acapulco, and since that time, he wanted to be a singer like Elvis. At age 16 Eddy started to learn the guitar and some Elvis songs. Still at a young age, Eddy started to sing at shows in his local town, and after a few years he was asked to join a leading band in Romania called ONIX. Eddy sang with the band at events across Romania for many years as well as appearing on National TV Shows.
In 2010 Eddy moved to The UK with his family. After a while, he began busking outside Marks & Spencer on Northumberland Street in Newcastle. He joined a local Rock n Roll Band, but after a short period decided it would be best to go solo. Around this time he was spotted by an agent who booked him into local Social Clubs and Pubs. Eddy performed songs by Neil Diamond, Tom Jones, Michael Buble, Dire Straits, and Elvis. He quickly established himself as a very popular entertainer on this circuit, and was awarded the Best Newcomer award in 2012 by The Concert Secretary’s Federation.
It was around this time that Eddy started to put together his successful full tribute show, and Forever Elvis was born. In 2014 Eddy competed in The European Elvis Championships in Birmingham and was crowned The European Elvis Gospel Champion for that year. Eddy competed at the same event in 2016 and made the finals of The European Elvis Championship, narrowly missing out on first place.
Eddy Popescu is an exciting and charismatic performer with natural good looks and charm. His show consists of 2-45 minute sets of Elvis classics covering all eras from the 1950s to the 1970s. His performance is complimented by four authentic costume changes, along with vintage accessories including a replica EV RE15 microphone Elvis used in the 70s.
Eddy Popescu and his Forever Elvis Show is now one of the leading tributes to the King of Rock 'n' Roll, performing to packed houses with re-bookings on almost every occasion. In addition to Eddy performing his tribute solo act, there is an optional 7 piece live band with musicians and 2 backup singers.
ETA Eddy Popescu is available for any kind of event--Weddings, Anniversaries, Birthday celebrations, Corporate functions, or Charity fund raising events. He can be booked as a solo act or with a full band.
