Discover What Johnny Hallyday's Three Metre Tall Statue Looks Like
Introduction
I wish to thank Barbara Andrade Trombello for her Facebook comment regarding SIDEBURNS Magazine post on October 7th, 2019, “Johnny Hallyday, The French Elvis”:
“Thank you Sideburns for this nice tribute. While driving in France, I thought I saw a statue of Elvis and turned the car around to find out it was Johnny Hallyday.”
I always enjoy reading comments from followers, especially when they share personal stories. Barbara’s comment prompted me to conduct further research to share on SIDEBURNS. I found the following interesting article, originally written in French, about the unveiling of Johnny Hallyday’s statue in 2018. I hope you all enjoy it. Cheers!
The Unveiling of Johnny Hallyday’s Statue
On Friday, June 15, 2018, rocker Johnny Hallyday would have been 75 years old. Fans all over France were given an opportunity on Saturday to pay tribute to their idol “Johnny”, when a three metre high statue was unveiled in Ardèche, Viviers, where Johnny’s mother is buried. A project to raise money for the statue was launched by a resident of the city who created an online donation kitty for the statue, a tribute that was chosen by fans to honour their idol’s memory. More than ten thousand euros later, sculptor Georges Daniel accepted the commission. More than 2000 were on hand to witness the unveiling of the statue that now stands on the property of the Tennessee Restaurant--a future pilgrimage site, no doubt, for Johnny Hallyday fans.
